Rob Russell served on the INCC committee for 20 years from 1992. He was instrumental in lobbying for additional space on the clubhouse site and for the establishment of facilities. During his tenure membership tripled and the 30 club boats were transformed into a fleet of 60 modern craft in every class. His contribution as club coach has been outstanding. Rob’s support for junior and senior paddlers led to the establishment of the INCC coaching program, which has been the foundation for many athletes who have gone on to compete internationally.

Rob continues to lead regular training sessions and maintains the fitness that enabled him to win numerous Victorian and National titles, represent Australia in Master’s competition and challenge the best in adventure racing. Rob completed the multisport Coast-to-Coast in New Zealand in 1988 and 1990 finishing 7th each time. Rob got into kayaking when he entered the Australian Winter Classic multisport race around Omeo, which required cross country skiing, running, cycling and downriver kayaking.
